Abstract

The present study proposed four types of “ taking the floor” in verbal interaction situations: two peaceful—waiting until the previous speaker finished, either with or without a pause— and two combative—interruption and arguing. It was proposed that the relative preference for one or the other of these four techniques is an aspect of individual style in verbal behavior.
